The Engineering & Regulatory Complexities of Crop Protection Packaging
The global agricultural chemical industry operates under some of the most aggressive physical and regulatory stress environments in industrial packaging. Agrochemical formulations—ranging from Emulsifiable Concentrates (EC) and Soluble Liquids (SL) to Suspension Concentrates (SC) and Water-Dispersible Granules (WDG)—contain potent Active Ingredients (AIs), harsh surfactant systems, and aggressive organic solvents like xylene, aromatic naphthes, and methyl esters.
Standard high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers often fail when exposed to these complex mixtures. Non-treated polymers are susceptible to solvent permeation (leading to container paneling, weight loss, and VOC emissions), Environmental Stress Cracking (ESC) triggered by active surfactants, and atmospheric oxidation that degrades active crop protection compounds before field application.
